VMS Installation Instructions

Collection Server Instructions

The Collection Server is intended to act as a black box. The purpose of the Collection Server is to gather data and then pass it to a database, where it can be stored. In order to pass the data to a database, it needs to be configured with network settings. Before the Collection Server is set in any hard to reach areas, it may be recommended to configure and test the network settings.

  1. Pull the Collection Server out of the box.
  2. Find the antenna included in the box with the Collection Server and attach it to the back of the CS, if using a wireless connection. If you are using a 3g connection, plug in the modem. Anybody using an ethernet cable should plug it in as well.
  3. Connect the AC adapter and plug one end into the wall and the other into the Collection Server.
  4. To connect to the network find the instructions on the USB Configurator and follow them.

VMS Configurator

If you have a network connection to the Collection Server you can set PRN settings as well as view the sensor signal strength and view additional diagnostics in the VMS Configurator. Instructions for using the VMS Configurator can be found in the VMS Manual packaged and installed with the VMS software.

USB Configurator

The USB Configurator allows a user to set the Network Settings and requires the user to have a removable USB Storage drive. Some of the options in the configurator are advanced options that require the help of your IT department

To Configure a Collection Server please see How to Configure a Collection Server

Cloud Account Instructions

To connect to your Cloud account follow the instructions How to Connect to VMS Cloud Account

SQL Connection String Instructions

This is an advanced option. The VMS software installs a local MS SQL express database for storing data locally but it is limited to 4GB of disk space. In order to have more control over their data some users may choose to set up their own MS SQL database. Instructions for settings up this option can be found VMS Database install on a customer's SQL Server. The option can be configured with the USB Configurator or in the VMS Configurator and can be viewed in the VMS Viewer using a connection string that looks like: "Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername;Password=myPassword;" The password is case-sensitive.
